Does Excess Weight Increase Night Sweats?

Since starting my night sweat sleepwear company, I have become the unofficial menopause expert among my friends. Last week at a party a women asked me if I thought excess body fat had anything to do with night sweats? That was a good question, so I decided to do some research. In a recent study found in the American Journal of Epidemiology, it suggests that excess body fat definitely contributes to more hot flashes and night sweats. When women have more body fat it is harder for the body to dissipate the heat, in turn making the hot flashes and night sweats more extreme. Researchers suggest that losing weight...specifically body fat is not only good for overall health, but might help to reduce the severity of night sweats and hot flashes. Something to think about as we prepare for bathing suit season and the warm months of summer.
